Claude Design Now Hands Off Designs Straight to Claude Code

Claude Design now hands finished designs to Claude Code and back, imports design systems from GitHub, and shares usage limits across Anthropic's tools.

Anthropic is closing the gap between designing an interface and building it. The company updated Claude Design, its design assistant from Anthropic Labs, to work much more closely with Claude Code. Now a finished design can hand straight off to the coding agent. And it works the other way around, too.

Design and code, both directions

The handoff is the headline. When a design is ready, Claude Code picks it up and starts programming the interface, with no screenshots and no fresh start. From the other side, developers can stay in the terminal. Specifically, a new /design command lets them create, edit, and sync design projects from Claude Code. There is also /design-sync, which pulls a design system into Claude Design. So the two tools now share one loop instead of living in separate apps, much as rival coding agents race to do the same.

It builds from your own design system

Claude Design can now import a design system directly. You can feed it GitHub repos, design files, or raw uploads. After that, Claude builds with your components and checks its work against the system. Anthropic says it “makes corrections before you see it.” For teams, meanwhile, a new admin role can approve and lock down edits, which matters for brand consistency.

Fewer tokens, shared limits

Anthropic also addressed a sore point: cost. Claude Design now shares usage limits with chat, Cowork, and Claude Code, so heavy users get more room across the board. On top of that, the company says the average turn uses fewer tokens, and errors are down sharply. That follows ongoing complaints about how quickly Claude’s limits get used up. The tool is out of preview for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, and Anthropic says more than a million people tried it in the first week.

It is a tidy loop, but a closed one. The whole flow lives inside Anthropic’s tools, from design to code. For teams already building on Claude, that tight integration is the selling point. It also fits Anthropic’s recent pace, after it opened Claude Fable 5 to regular users earlier this month.
